"Teaching young minds about the heavens"
The Heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.
Psalm 19:1-2

Comet Images
17/P Holmes

This is a short period comet with an orbit of about 6.8 years. Usually it is not visable except through larger telescopes. On about October 24, 2007 it suddenly brightened by a factor of 15 magnitudes, or about 500,000 times, to magnitude 2.5 making it look like a bright yellow star to the naked eye.
Images were taken using my Meade LX-90 and a Canon 10D at prime focus. It is obvious that the star-like nucleus is not directly centered on the coma. There are also quite dramatic changes from day to day.
